Scientist, NGS Library Prep and Assay Development

Apton Biosystems, Inc., is a Pleasanton, California-based developer of Super-Res™ sequencing systems for large-scale clinical applications such as early cancer detection and population sequencing. Apton has re-imagined the optical systems for sequencing using super-resolution to evaluate molecules spaced closer than a wavelength of light. Apton’s Super-Res™ technology enables densely sequencing tens of billions of reads in a single run using simple un-patterned flow cells that lower variable costs.

We seek a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our biochemistry team as Scientist. The successful candidate will focus on the optimization of library prep for a well-characterized, robust workflow. She/he will contribute to the development of processes and assays that are used to track or characterize the library prep process.

Responsibilities:

• Characterize and track variables in the sample/library prep process
• Develop assays for sample/library characterization
• Optimize and troubleshoot sample/library prep process for robust performance
• Independently plan, design, and execute experiments
• Thoroughly understand the goals and concepts of any work performed
• Present data and report on project status at individual, group, and departmental research meetings
• Assist with documentation and process transfer to manufacturing

Qualifications:

• PhD or MS in molecular biology, biochemistry or closely related field with 2+ years of relevant industry experience
• Strong research and assay development skills in molecular biology
• Must have experience with next generation sequencing (NGS)
• Proficient in standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques such as PCR, quantitative PCR, digital PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA/RNA extraction and purification
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Detail-oriented, highly motived, can-do attitude
• Desire to learn and grow, to be part of a rapidly growing and changing organization
• Experience in biotech start-up a plus
